Nannette Acker Clark is a Philadelphia-based African American mixed-media artist born in Buffalo, New York, on March 19, 1948. In 1971 she earned a BFA in sculpture jointly from the University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Art, and in 1984 an MA in art education from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Inspired by contemporary fiber and sculpture works, design traditions from other cultures, and her identity as a Black woman in the United States, she began working with fiber and mixed media in graduate school to create realistic and figurative sculptures. Her work “explores spiritual journeys through the interaction of line, pattern, texture, and color.”[1]
