Love them or loathe them, for most of us our jobs take up the majority of our waking hours. Across the globe, labor has many things in common—wages, bureaucracies, institutional frameworks. But it can also be local in character, including how people value different roles. Will this change much in our lifetimes, and if so, how—and who will benefit? Here, designers think about how values might (or must) shift, and how we and future generations will engage with earning a living—willingly, coercively, invisibly, lucratively, or by handing over the reins to machines.
