Image Guide

A guide to finding and using images in the museum collections and elsewhere.

Request PMA Images

The Library and Archives supplies high-resolution images whenever they are available without charge. If the image you are seeking is not available online or if you require a different file size, email an image request to the library. See the guidelines below for key information to provide when requesting an image to help us more efficiently fulfill your request.

Notes

  • We may not be able to fulfill every request due to copyright, donor, or other restrictions
  • Fulfillment is made for existing images only
    • If new photography is required, a one-time fee for photography may be charged. Requests are handled on a case-by-case basis.
  • For PMA staff, new photography orders can be placed directly with the Photography Studio

Permission to Publish

In the majority of cases, the Philadelphia Museum of Art does not hold the copyright to materials in its collections and so cannot grant or deny permission to publish them, nor can the museum assume responsibility for determining their copyright status. It is the responsibility of the user to secure permission from the appropriate copyright holder to publish or cite works.
